GOP officials to appoint replacement for Rep. McMillin

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Republican Party officials in southeastern Indiana will meet in two weeks to select a replacement for state Rep. Jud McMillin, who abruptly resigned.

The Indiana Republican Party said Tuesday that precinct committeemen from Union, Dearborn and Franklin counties will gather on Oct. 22 to appoint a new state representative.

The meeting will be held in the Franklin County Government Center in Brookville at 6:30 p.m.

McMillan surprised colleagues when he abruptly stepped down from his seat on Sept. 29. He later posted on Facebook that he had made "mistakes" that needed to be remedied with his family. It came a week after he sent a text message to acquaintances, apologizing for "anything offensive" sent to them from his cellphone, without elaborating.

He has not responded to requests for comment.
