2 Elkhart high school students arrested for computer attack

ELKHART, Ind. (AP) - Authorities arrested two Elkhart Memorial High School students for allegedly tampering with computer systems across the northern Indiana school district.

The Elkhart Truth reports (http://bit.ly/1Me9AUV ) that the 15-year-old and 16-year-old students were arrested last week. They were released on supervision after a juvenile detention hearing Monday morning. The Elkhart County prosecutor's office says no juvenile delinquency petitions - or formal charges - have been filed but the case remains under review.

Elkhart Community Schools officials said the denial-of-service attack started Sept. 24 and continued through last week. They said it affected every district building, slowing service. For example, staff couldn't process education plans for special needs students.

Senior Director of Technology Dan Rice said the attack consumed nearly all of his staff's working hours as they searched for the source.
