Elgin man pointed gun at driver trying to pass him, police say

An Elgin man was arrested this week after pointing a handgun at the driver of a car who tried to pass him, authorities said.

Elgin police received a call from a man who said that he tried to pass a vehicle while traveling near Big Timber Road and North State Street on Tuesday night, but the driver of the other vehicle pointed a handgun at him, according to a news release.

The victim slowed down and was able to get the driver's license plate. Police conducted a traffic stop and arrested Kyle J. Peters, 28, of the 900 block of Bruce Drive in Elgin, after finding a loaded handgun and cannabis in his car, the news release said.

Peters was charged with four counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of cannabis and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Peters appeared in Kane County court on Wednesday morning, where bail was set at $50,000.
