Dold breaks with GOP on shutdown vote
U.S. Rep. Robert Dold was one of a minority of Republicans to break from his party and vote to avert a federal shutdown.
The House voted 277-151 Wednesday in favor of passing a resolution that would keep federal government services funded through December.
All 186 Democrats present at the Capitol in Washington, D.C., voted for the measure, with every one of the 151 "no" votes coming from the Republican side.
But Dold, of Kenilworth, was among the 91 GOP members casting votes in favor of the resolution, as were fellow Illinois Republicans Adam Kinzinger of Manteno and Rodney Davis of Taylorville.
Dold, in a statement, called it the "core responsibility of Congress" to establish a yearly budget.
Dold said he was proud Congress "was able to put people before politics and keep the government open."
Many conservatives had hoped to use the bill to end funding for Planned Parenthood.
