Woodland takes tech initiative

The Woodland Board of Education this past week approved a 1:1 technology initiative that will provide Chromebooks to sixth through eighth grade students at Woodland Middle School beginning next fall. The approval comes after lengthy deliberation this summer by the school board. The total estimated annual lease cost is $256,000. While the initiative will formally be implemented next fall, Woodland will introduce a pilot team made up of four teachers at each middle school grade level beginning in January. Training for the pilot team will begin in the fall with the remainder of staff being trained next summer. "It was our vision that we provide our middle school students with the appropriate tools to support and empower them as they advance through Woodland and transition to high school." said board President Chris Schrantz.
