Des Plaines woman riding bike struck by car, killed in Aurora

A 66-year-old Des Plaines woman was struck and killed by a car while riding her bicycle with a group of people in Aurora Saturday morning, authorities said.

According to a news release by the Aurora Police Department, Lonnie Wilkinson was riding the Virgil Gillman Trail with a group of people and was crossing Densmore Road just before 11 a.m. when she was struck by a southbound car.

Police said the driver was a Sugar Grove man but would release no other information about him.

Paramedics rushed Wilkinson to an Aurora hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Wilkinson was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

There were no outward signs of alcohol or drug use at the scene.

No tickets have been issued to the driver.

Aurora police are investigating the crash.
