Green Oaks woman found a day after going missing

An ailing Green Oaks woman was found in the Libertyville area Tuesday afternoon after going missing for more than a day.

Mitsuko "Mikko" Washinushi, 77, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease, apparently left her home in the 1800 block of White Fence Lane Monday morning.

She was located at about 1:30 p.m. and taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Libertyville Assistant Fire Chief Ken Komers said.

Authorities did not have details of where Washinushi was found or where she had been.

A person matching her description was last seen at 2 p.m. Monday near North River and Guerin roads near Libertyville.

A number of police and fire departments were involved in the search, including a special team that used sonar equipment to check the lake at Independence Grove Forest Preserve Tuesday morning.
