Algonquin townhouse fire sends man to hospital

One man was taken to the hospital after a small fire at an Algonquin townhouse Wednesday, fire officials said.

Around 8:20 p.m., the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District arrived at the multiunit townhouse on the 900 block of Interloch Court and saw smoke outside of the home, authorities said.

Firefighters entered the home to find a small fire contained in a first-floor closet, said Cpt. Steve Ciaccio. It was put out with a fire extinguisher, he said.

The man, a resident of the home, was taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin for precautionary reasons, Ciaccio said. Nobody was injured.

The fire, which is under investigation, caused minor damage to the home, he said.

Assisting at the scene were the Carpentersville, Crystal Lake and Fox River Grove fire departments, as well as the Huntley and Cary fire protection districts.
