Girls golf: Superlative start for Barrington's Sulkar

After setting a school record with a 68 in her first meet as a sophomore last year, what did Barrington's Reena Sulkar do for an encore in her junior debut?

How about break her own record with a 66 on the par-71 Bonnie Dundee Golf Club in Carpentersville?

Sulkar's amazing round included 5 birdies and helped lead the Barrington girls golf team to a school-record 297 as the Fillies won their own eight-team invite for the second time in three years after a second-place finish last August.

The Fillies' closest pursuer on Monday was Libertyville, which was second at 318 followed by Glenbrook South 320.

"Reena was on fire," said Barrington Hall of Fame coach Jodi Schoeck.

Schoeck could also smile about the rest of her crew which saw junior Shivani Majmudar take second individually with a personal-best 72, followed by two freshmen - Nicole Ciskowski (77 good for seventh place) and Ishani Majmudar (82).

Barrington broke its former school record of 312.

Sulkar, the defending Mid-Suburban League who was eighth in the state finals last fall, birdied no. 1 and nos. 12 through 15 as she recoded 33s on the front and the back nine.
