Maybe voting is a waste, after all

A friend of mine and I went to a local watering hole for lunch and a few drinks. The conversation ebbed and flowed, when finally the talk turned to voting. My friend said that he doesn't vote anymore. His reason was that voting was a waste of time. I took the high road and said that I had voted in almost every election possible since I was 21 years old.

After parting company, still friends, I gave his statement some further consideration. The more I thought about it, the more I tended to agree with him. The record shows that my friend is right.

If I may cite some examples:

A. Obamacare was voted down by a majority of voters but was pushed through anyway.

B. People vote against the raising of taxes both locally and nationally. Like the sun, they keep rising.

C. Voters are against government spending and waste. They both follow the same trajectory.

People are constantly at odds with the rich men who create or manufacture and produce commodities. The people miss a factory called Washington, D.C. The only things produced there are millionaires.

The golden parachutes given to retiring politicians are the envy of most non-political folks.

Abraham Lincoln once stated that this country was of the people, by the people, and for the people. If Honest Abe were alive, he would hang his head and cry. The country Abe spoke of is becoming a memory.
