Rosemont sledding hill to return, but at half the height

Rosemont's Polar Peak snow hill is returning this winter, albeit at half the height.

The hill will again be constructed of shipping containers and truss systems at the village's MB Financial Park entertainment district, but it'll only rise as high as two stories - not last year's four.

"I think it was a little intimidating to some folks," Mayor Brad Stephens said of last year's hill.

The shorter hill will mirror the one that's been installed at Fenway Park in Boston - which caught the eye of Rosemont officials last year and convinced them to set up a hill of their own.

The village board this week accepted a $180,000 proposal from Maine-based StackBox Structures to provide equipment and services for setting up the snow hill in Rosemont.

It is expected to be open for sledding and tubing from mid-December to mid-February.
