Person struck, killed by Metra train in Maine Township

A person was struck and killed by a Metra train Thursday night, according to railway officials.

Meg Reille, Metra spokeswoman, said the person was struck by outbound North Central Line Train No. 119. The train came to a full stop near the intersection of Central and Rand roads in unincorporated Maine Township, between the Prospect Heights and O'Hare Metra stations, just after 7:30 p.m., she said.

Reille said the passengers were taken by bus to the O'Hare Metra station. Reille said the train was stopped for about an hour and a half after the crash, which delayed the last train out of Chicago.

The crash is under investigation.
