81 homes approved on Hoffman Estates farm

Hoffman Estates officials gave final approval Monday to an 81-home subdivision on the 37-acre former Bergman farm at the northwest corner of Algonquin and Ela roads.

The first phase of construction, consisting of 41 homes, will begin this year. The second phase will be triggered by demand, but could start as early as the late spring or summer of 2016, officials said.

Plans show a park with a playground at the corner of the intersection. Developers anticipated keeping the Bergman farmhouse on the edge of the park while its historical status is being investigated. If it remains, the village could consider some type of public use for the farmhouse.

Though the property was annexed by Hoffman Estates in 1962, it has remained a working farm - only recently coming under contract for possible development by M/I Homes of Chicago LLC.
