Chicago White Sox extend losing streak to 7 games

As the losses pile up on the Chicago White Sox, manager Robin Ventura is sure of one thing.

"You can either come in, fight like (heck), scratch and claw, or curl up in a ball," Ventura said. "Nobody in there is going to curl up into a ball. They're all going to come out here and compete, and scratch and claw."

The White Sox did scratch and claw Thursday night at U.S. Cellular Field, but they still lost to the Pirates 3-2.

The Sox (28-37), who managed only 3 hits, extended their season-high losing streak to seven games.

After falling behind 1-0 in the fourth, the White Sox tied the game in the bottom of the inning on Melky Cabrera's sacrifice fly.

Pittsburgh took a 2-1 lead with a run off starter Jeff Samardzija in the fifth, but Geovany Soto tied it back up with a solo home run off Gerrit Cole in the seventh.

Gregory Polanco's RBI groundout in the eighth inning decided the outcome for the Pirates.
