Buffalo Grove pavilion to be named after former parks director Schimmel

The band pavilion at the Buffalo Grove Park District's Willow Stream Park will formally be named the Dan Schimmel Pavilion during a dedication ceremony at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, June 23.

The dedication recognizes Schimmel's 24 years with the park district, including four as its executive director. Schimmel retired in December.

According to a park district board resolution supporting the pavilion's naming, Schimmel played a key role in the development of the Spray N' Play, new lighted ball fields at what is now Mike Rylko Community Park, the Skate Park, the Fitness Center and the Golf and Sports Center. He also assisted in the acquisition and development of the new Community Arts Center purchased in 2012, according to the resolution.
