Reel life: Blue Whiskey presents 'Butch Cassidy'

• The Blue Whiskey Independent Film Festival's Cinema Series presents George Roy Hill's classic western "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, at the Star Cinema Grill, 53 S. Evergreen St., Arlington Heights. Admission costs $6. Go to bwiff.com.

• J.R. Jones, member of the Chicago Film Critics Association and film editor of the Chicago Reader, will sign copies of his new actor's biography, "The Lives of Robert Ryan," following a screening of Ryan's film noiry drama "The Set-Up" at noon on Sunday, May 31, at the Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport Ave., Chicago.

After the 72-minute movie, Jones will conduct a discussion with Lisa Ryan, the actor's daughter. Go to musicboxtheatre.com. Admission costs $10. Advance book purchases cost $28, a $2 discount.

• It's coming! The Midwest Independent Film Festival presents Female Filmmakers Night, at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, at the Century Centre Cinema, 2828 N. Clark St., Chicago.

Included: Sundance and South by Southwest faves plus Emmy-nominated works from women, including local director Kris Swanberg, Jennifer Reeder, Kristyn Benedyk and Liz Kaar. Go to midwestfilm.com/nowshowing.

• Dann & Raymond's Movie Club has gone on hiatus for the summer. But in September, we start our ninth season at the Schaumburg Township District Library and eighth at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library the first and second Tuesdays of the month.
