Children shake it up to the music at Ela Area Public Library in Lake Zurich

Music motivator Ginger Acopiado danced and sang with young children as they shook small maracas during the Music-in-the-Box program Wednesday at the Ela Area Public Library in Lake Zurich.

"We show people how to use music picture books," explained Acopiado, president of the Music-in-the-Box based in Libertyville. "We engage all the senses at once. They engage their bodies and their senses so everybody participates and everybody haves fun."

The last of a four-week session began with children jumping up and down and touching toes as they danced to the song "Shake It Up"

More than 150 children, parents and caregivers attended the music, rhythm, and movement program geared for children ages 2-5 to encourage their mind, body and senses.

"It's nice that it gets my kids up and dancing to the music. It's very involved," Lake Zurich resident Melissa Trinh said as she brought her two children, Mia, 3, and Elena, 8 months. "I think it makes it more exciting for them."

As children crowded to the front, Acopiado sang to them from pictures books based on famous songs and singers including "Love Me Tender" by Elvis Presley, "My Favorite Things" sung by Julie Andrews, and "One Love" by Bob Marley.
