Elgin Academy's Pearson qualifies for finals in 100, 200

Elgin Academy senior Kaitlyn Pearson qualified for the finals in the 100 and 200 meters Thursday during the prelims of the Class 1A state girls track meet at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.

Pearson ran the second fastest 100 time of the prelims, clocking a 12.51. She ran a 26.05 in the 200.

Harvest Christian's Valerie Richter also qualified for the finals in the 800 meters, running a time of 2:22.54.

Area individuals who competed Thursday but didn't make the finals included Harvest Christian's Kylee Knox in the 110 hurdles, the Lions' Nygia Pollard in the 1,600 and Richter in the 1,600.

The St. Edward 400 relay team and the Harvest 1,600 relay team also competed.

The Class 1A state finals will be held Saturday, which will also include Pollard and St. Edward's Megan Kremer competing in the 3,200 run.
