Bicyclist killed near Hampshire identified

A 68-year-old Hampshire man has been identified as the bicyclist killed in a crash Monday afternoon, authorities said.

Dennis Jurs was killed after hitting the side of a vehicle at 4:10 p.m. at the intersection of Walker and Allen roads in an unincorporated area near Hampshire, Kane County officials said.

A 2009 Honda CRV was traveling south on Walker Road and stopped for the stop sign at Allen Road before entering the intersection.

The Honda was struck on the passenger side by the bicycle, and the bicyclist was thrown. There isn't a stop sign for traffic on Allen Road. The bicyclist, an adult, was pronounced dead at the scene, Kane County Lt. Patrick Gengler said.

The Honda's driver, James Conners, 64, of DeKalb, was taken to Presence St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin with nonlife-threatening injuries. Conners was ticketed for failure to yield right of way.

The crash remains under investigation. Authorities do not believe alcohol or drugs played a part in the crash.
