New Volo mayor sworn in

Volo has a new village president.

Stephen Henley was sworn in Tuesday night, becoming only the second person to serve as village president in the village's history.

Henley replaced outgoing village President Burnell Russell, who served 23 years as leader of the village board.

When Russell took over after Volo was incorporated in 1993, the town had only about 200 residents and 13 businesses. Now, the town has about 3,500 residents and 51 businesses.

Henley, a village trustee, defeated challenger Zach Steffens during the April election to win the village president's race.

He said Tuesday, “Burnell set the cornerstone in this village. Now it's incumbent upon us, as Burnell said, we need to lay that next stone to build this village. And everyone's going to be a part of that. Not only this board, but all the residents of this village.”
