Record spring for Hendricks at Benedictine

Former Carmel Catholic baseball standout Tim Hendricks has been a big hit on collegiate level.

This spring, the Benedictine University senior became the school's and his conference's career leader in hits.

He set the school record during the second game of a doubleheader with Rockford last week and broke the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference mark the next day in the second game of a doubleheader against Marian.

Hendricks came to the plate in the top of the third inning against Rockford with a runner at first base and he tripled to right-center field for the 229th hit at Benedictine.

It was his first triple of the season and scored a run to hand Benedictine a 1-0 lead, breaking a tie with Mike Kowalewski. Kowalewski notched 228 hits during a career that spanned from 1994-97.

Hendricks added a single leading off the sixth for the 230th of his career, matching the NACC career record.

On the next day, Hendricks led off the bottom of the first in the second game against Marian with an infield single for his 231st hit, establishing a new NACC mark.

The hit eclipsed the record set by Tony Wellner, who played for Aurora University from 2007-2010.

Hendricks a Mundelein native, owns a .381 average this season, tops on the team. He has recorded 53 hits this season while also leading the team in runs, doubles, and stolen bases.

He was the conference offensive player of the year in 2013, earning All-America honors as well.

Hendricks picked up 36 hits as a freshman in 2012 and 78 in 2013 when Benedictine reached the NCAA Regionals.

Henricks added 65 as a junior and was named first team all-conference in 2013 and 2014.
