12 years prison for Elgin child sex assault

A 59-year-old Elgin man was sentenced to 12 years in prison Thursday after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a child he knew from May 2001 through July 2013.

Bruce A. Puchek, of the 2900 block of Shamrock Circle, also must register for life as a sex offender as part of the guilty plea, which was accepted by Judge Susan Clancy Boles, according to the Kane County state's attorney's office.

The victim, who was younger than 18 when the assaults began, eventually told her mother, who called the Department of Children and Family Services hotline to file a report, according to prosecutors.

Puchek receives credit for about 20 months served at the Kane County jail since his arrest.

Under state law, he must serve 85 percent of his sentence, or a little more than 10 years.
