One dead, shooter remains at large in Elgin

Elgin police are searching for the person or people who shot and killed a 20-year-old man on the 1200 block of Fleetwood Drive Thursday night.

Cmdr. Colin Fleury said police responded to the scene around 9:15 p.m. and found the victim in the parking lot of the Wendy's near the intersection of South McLean Boulevard and Fleetwood Drive.

Fleury said in a news release early Friday the victim was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity was not released.

Fleury said the Kane County Coroner will conduct an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.

Fleury said Thursday police canvassed the subdivision behind the Wendy's restaurant for any signs of who shot the victim.

A Jeep with a passenger's-side window that had been shot out was towed from the Wendy's parking lot around 10 p.m. Fleury said he could not comment yet on how that Jeep related to the case.

He did say that while the victim was found in the Wendy's parking lot, he was not shot there.

Fleury said he could not comment on how the man came to be in the Wendy's parking lot.

The Elgin Police Department posted on its Facebook page that anyone with information about the shooting can provide anonymous tips or information by calling the crime line at (847) 695-4195, or sending a text to 847411 with ELGINPD in the beginning of the text, along with the message and/or tip information.
