CASA informs public on reporting suspected child abuse

As April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, there has been much in the press recently about the large community outreach initiative of keeping children safe.

CASA Kane County will begin distributing information packets to Illinois State Mandated Reporters to further educate the community on what to do if child abuse or neglect is suspected.

This initiative began with the collaboration among CASA Kane County, Kane County state's attorney's office, Kane County Regional Office of Education, and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.

These organizations agree on the importance of being pro-active in the prevention of abuse, rather than reacting after the abuse or neglect occurs.

Everyone can do his/her part by calling (800) 25-ABUSE to make a report.

If you do not receive a packet of information in the coming weeks, visit www.casakanecounty.org to download the information and bring into your place of work.

Listen to a podcast by Kane County State's Attorney Joe McMahon and assistant state's attorney Lark Cowart on Mandated Reporting.

CASA Kane County is a nonprofit, volunteer organization that advocates for the best interests of abused and neglected children within the juvenile court system. To learn more, visit the organization's website at www.casakanecounty.org.
