Crash near Fremd injures three women; no students involved

Palatine police said no Fremd High School students were involved in a two-car crash on Quentin Road near the school Wednesday afternoon that sent three women to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

Cmdr. Michael Seebacher said the crash occurred just after 12:30 p.m. near Quentin and West Gilbert Road, when a 2005 Ford Escape driven by a 63-year-old Arlington Heights woman was rear-ended by a 2008 Audi sedan driven by a 19-year-old Mundelein man. The collision knocked the woman's SUV on its passenger side, Seebacher said, injuring her and two passengers, a 74-year-old woman from Ontario, Canada, and a 92-year-old Palatine woman.

Seebacher said all four lanes of Quentin Road were shut down for about 30 minutes while first-responders brought in equipment necessary to stabilize the SUV, cut its roof open, extract the three women and rush them to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.

“Our officer at the hospital said the Palatine woman is doing very well considering she's 92 and the car was on its side,” Seebacher said.

The driver of the Audi was uninjured. Both cars had to be towed from the scene.

Seebacher said the driver of the Audi sedan has not been ticketed yet, but police expect to issue him a citation.
