Schneider in for a third run at Congress

Brad Schneider of Deerfield Thursday launched his bid to go back to Congress, touting the backing of prominent suburban Democrats in a first step in a looming primary against Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering.

The run to face Republican U.S. Rep. Bob Dold of Kenilworth in the north suburban 10th Congressional District will be Schneider's third. Schneider won his first race for Congress in 2012 against Dold. Schneider lost his seat in 2014 to Dold. Now the two men could face off again next year.

"My focus will be like a laser beam on Bob Dold," Schneider said.

Dold, meanwhile, says he'll report raising $600,000 in the first quarter of the year, another sign that the 10th District race will once again be one of the most hotly contested in the country.

"The outpouring of support and generous dollars donated demonstrate that the people of the 10th stand firmly with Congressman Dold and his solutions-focused leadership," Dold spokeswoman Danielle Hagen said in a statement.

A spokeswoman for Rotering didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

Rotering, a first-term mayor and longtime trustee in Highland Park, announced her campaign last month and has traveled to Washington D.C. to seek support. She's announced the support of former Democratic 10th District hopeful Dan Seals, but Schneider's list Thursday included every suburban Democrat in Congress, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and a number of state lawmakers.
