Downers Grove man charged with robbing Domino's Pizza

A Downers Grove man is being held on $400,000 bond on charges he stole $127 during an armed robbery at a Domino's Pizza in Downers Grove and then attempted to rob a Shell station in Hinsdale, authorities said Monday.

James W. Himpler, 48, of the 4800 block of Oakwood Avenue, is charged with one count of aggravated robbery, one count of attempted aggravated robbery and one count of aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer. He appeared Monday morning in bond court before Judge Robert Miller and next is scheduled to appear in court on April 27 before Judge George Bakalis.

Authorities said Himpler entered the Domino's on Belmont Avenue around 12:30 a.m. Sunday and told the clerk he was armed. The clerk turned over the money and Himpler fled.

Later that same morning, around 4:15 a.m., authorities said Himpler entered a Shell Food Mart near York Road and Ogden Avenue in Hinsdale, told the clerk he was armed and demanded money. He fled in his car without receiving any cash and several witnesses immediately called police.

Police located Himpler's vehicle and a chase ensued that ended when he was apprehended by Burr Ridge police.

"It is alleged that within a four-hour period, Mr. Himpler entered two separate businesses intent on robbery," DuPage State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a news release. "Thankfully, no one was hurt at either establishment ..."

Berlin said officers from the DuPage sheriff's office, Hinsdale, Downers Grove, Burr Ridge and Indian Head Park all played a role in Himpler's eventual arrest.
