Prosecutors: Employee stole $3,600 from Rosemont restaurant

A Chicago man who worked for a Rosemont bar and restaurant has been charged with illegally transferring more than $3,000 from the bar account into his own account.

Eugene Rogers, 46, whose background includes several convictions for theft and deceptive practices, was ordered held on $30,000 bail on charges of theft and wire fraud.

According to prosecutors, Rogers worked at Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill from July 30 to Nov. 12, 2014. During that time he wired $3,642.75 from the bar's account into his personal bank account, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Maureen McGee.

Rogers, of the 6900 block of Jeffrey Boulevard, was convicted of theft in 2012 and sentenced to two years in prison. He was also sentenced to two years in prison in 2007 following a conviction on multiple charges including deceptive practices and theft, McGee said. He received one year probation for felony burglary in 1989 and has a federal conviction for bank fraud for which he was sentenced to 18 months, McGee said.

Rogers next appears in court on April 17.
