'Red Rocker' Sammy Hagar to play Naperville's Ribfest

The “Red Rocker” Sammy Hagar and his new band The Circle will perform Friday, July 3, at Ribfest in Naperville.

The former Van Halen singer and the band featuring rhythm bassist Michael Anthony, guitarist Vic Johnson and drummer Jason Bonham, join a festival lineup that already includes The Band Perry, Kellie Pickler and Kristian Bush.

Hagar will perform rock classics spanning four decades during his concert in Knoch Park near downtown.

The show will come after the group releases its latest CD and digital album, “At Your Service,” on May 19.

Hagar started in rock with the band Montrose, had a solo career and became the second frontman of Van Halen. He was named to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007 and is known for hits including “I Can't Drive 55,” “Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy,” “Finish What Ya Started” and “Right Now.”

In business, Hagar is the entrepreneur behind Cabo Wabo Tequila and Sammy's Beach Bar Rum. He also works to provide food for those in need through the Hagar Family Foundation.

After announcing The Band Perry will play Sunday, July 5, and Kellie Pickler and Kristian Bush will play in separate shows on Saturday, July 4, Ribfest organizers from the Naperville Exchange Club said other acts for the four-day festival would be classic rock. Organizers have yet to announce who will perform on the festival's opening day, Thursday, July 2.

Ribfest tickets cost $12 online at ribfest.net until June 1 or $15 at the gate.
