170,000 pounds of beef recalled in Cook County
A Cook County meat company is recalling nearly 170,000 pounds of beef that may be contaminated with E.coli, according to a release from the Illinois Department of Agriculture.
El Cubano Wholesale Meats, based in Chicago, announced a recall of 169,620 pounds of beef cheek meat products that were distributed to stores and restaurants in Cook County, according to the release.
Packaging for the beef in question has the establishment number "EST. 4653a" inside the USDA mark of inspection and establishment name "Iowa Best Beef."
The problem was discovered by the Illinois Department of Agriculture during a routine inspection.
"(The department) is concerned that some product may be frozen in restaurants/retail store freezers. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a health care provider immediately," the release says.
