Wendy's restaurant near Maine East to be rebuilt

The Wendy's restaurant near Maine East High School will be demolished and rebuilt, as part of a remodeling effort at many of the national hamburger chain's buildings.

The existing Des Plaines Wendy's building at 2570 E. Dempster St. was built in 1985, but the restaurant plans to tear it down and replace it with a modern building. It will include more windows and white and red accent colors and trim, intended to make the restaurant more inviting, according to a company official who spoke during a recent zoning board meeting.

The new building will occupy roughly the same footprint and continue to have a drive-through. Pedestrian walkways will be installed on Dempster Street and Potter Road.

Between 65 percent and 70 percent of all stores are being remodeled, officials said.

The city council approved the project this week.
