Melodies o' the Irish in Mundelein

Phil Passen of Chicago brought a little St. Patrick's Day spirit to Fremont Public Library in Mundelein on Monday.

Passen entertained a crowd of abut 50 people as he performed traditional Irish music on his hammered dulcimer.

The music in Passen's program ranged from beautiful show ayres to rousing reels and jigs, including some recognizable melodies such as "Irish Washerwoman" and "Danny Boy."

Passen admitted that the dulcimer is not often thought of as an Irish instrument but said, "I love Irish music and I play the dulcimer."
