Alexander, Wroblewski net MSL acclaim

Conant senior Bobby Alexander and Prospect sophomore Matt Wroblewski have been named wrestlers of the year by the Mid-Suburban League coaches, while Conant coach Chad Hay and Prospect coach Tom Whalen were honored as the league's coaches of the year by their peers.

Alexander just completed a brilliant four-year career for the Cougars, which included a 48-1 record this season to go with his fourth consecutive MSL and regional championships while helping lead his team to a third straight regional team title. Alexander broke the all-time program record for victories in late January, then later advanced to the Class 3A state tournament for the third time in four years, finishing third at 138 pounds.

Wroblewski was a key figure in the Knights' march to their first-ever appearance at the 3A dual-team state tournament last weekend after earning a fourth-place medal at the individual state tournament in Champaign to weeks ago. He captured his second straight regional crown to start his postseason and later earned his 43rd win of the year against Glenbard North during the team state quarterfinals. The 170-pounder also won 34 bouts in his rookie season.
