Freezing rain snarls Indiana roads, closes some schools
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Freezing rain has snarled Indiana roads and led to some school closings.
All lanes of Interstate 65 just north of Lafayette were closed for more than five hours Tuesday morning after several semitrailers crashed in the northbound lanes.
Indiana State Police say westbound lanes of Interstate 70 in eastern Indiana were closed for more than two hours because of numerous slide-offs and crashes. They also reported numerous crashes and slide-offs on I-69 and U.S. 30 in northeastern Indiana.
The freezing rain was turning to rain and melting the snowpack left behind by as much as 8 inches of weekend snow. The National Weather Service said flooding was possible in low-lying areas across central Indiana and along rivers and streams. Some communities made sandbags available for homeowners.
