Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what is it?I am running for Library Board Trustee because I feel an obligation to give back to this community, and more specifically to the library, which has given so much to both myself and my family. If you are an incumbent, describe your main contributions. Tell us of important initiatives you've led. If you are a non-incumbent, tell us what contributions you would make.As a non-incumbent one of my major goals is the involvement of all groups in the programs of our library. Our library is the crown jewel of Glendale Heights. We have an outstanding leadership and staff team. They will receive my total cooperation.Do you have a library card? How long have you had it? How often do you use it?Yes, I do have a library card. I have had it for approximately 17 years. Residing across the street from the library puts me in the library a minimum of 3 times per week.Space is an issue at many libraries. If that's the case at your library, would your solution be to expand the physical plant or make room by doing away with parts of the collection that technology has made less critical? Explain. We had a recent expansion and renovation of the library. If the demands of the community warrant further expansion we would take a long hard look at the proposal. There may be collections that have lost their relevance. However, before any further action on the part of the board due diligence would be given to any change. What impact have economic and technological changes had on libraries? How does a library remain relevant? How should its role in the community change?Economic and technological changes have taken their toll on libraries. So long as there is a child with an imagination there will always be a library. As community leaders we have been tasked with the responsibility to keep that spark alive. What other issues, if any, are important to you as a candidate for this office? In many instances our library has become a community's window to the world. I have seen both adults and children totally absorbed in their world of reading. Our mission is to make their visit to the library as enjoyable as possible. Please name one current leader who most inspires you.President Bill ClintonWhat's the biggest lesson you learned at home growing up?An absolute respect for education. If life gave you one do-over, what would you spend it on?I am grateful for every educational opportunity I ever had. I would not change a thing. What was your favorite subject in school and how did it help you in later life?I really enjoyed Civics. It taught me that if government is to function there must be compromise. If you could give your children only one piece of advice, what would it be?To keep a positive attitude.
