Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what is it?As a teacher I valued the importance of the Library to the community and have enjoyed volunteering my time overseeing its workings.If you are an incumbent, describe your main contributions. Tell us of important initiatives you've led. If you are a non-incumbent, tell us what contributions you would make.I have have been active through two building projects and now the renovation. I am now the Board President.Do you have a library card? How long have you had it? How often do you use it?Yes, I have had a Wauconda library card since 1968 when I moved into town to take a teaching job at the High School. I am in the library several times a week.Space is an issue at many libraries. If that's the case at your library, would your solution be to expand the physical plant or make room by doing away with parts of the collection that technology has made less critical? Explain.We looked at the space problem and decided to modify the collection and rework the space we have. We are in the midst or a renovation that is designed to meet the changing needs of our community and keep the Wauconda Library relevant.What impact have economic and technological changes had on libraries? How does a library remain relevant? How should its role in the community change?Libraries find their role in the community changing. Although lending physical materials is decreasing, this service still remains the largest service provided by the library. New electronic services are being added to our library. The renovation will provide more electronics along with spaces that will invite the public in to meet, take classes, produce electronic presentations, educate and interest children as well as present a place to sit and read. We are also undergoing some organizational changes that well improve our patron services.
