Fire damages concrete forming plant
Fire investigators Friday said Thursday night's fire in a Gilberts industrial park remains under investigation. There were approximately 30 firefighters on the scene Thursday, with help from surrounding fire departments. Nobody was in the building at the time and no firemen nor police officers were injured.
Rutland-Dundee Fire Protection District Deputy Chief Bob Brogan said the blaze at Forming Concepts, Inc., a concrete forming plant in the 100 block of Industrial Drive, was finally extinguished about 1:45 a.m. Friday.
He said firefighters were dispatched at 8:25 p.m. Thursday to the blaze near Route 72 and the Jane Addams Tollway. He said the building was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.
"We'll be out there all day trying to figure out the cause," Brogan said Friday morning.
The fire was near the end of Industrial Drive, home to a number of other factories and businesses.
Firefighters from Carpentersville, Elgin, West Dundee, Pingree Grove, East Dundee and South Elgin assisted at the scene, with Streamwood and Burlington covering the Rutland-Dundee station.
"Everybody did a great job protecting their safety with the conditions we were under last night," Rutland-Dundee Fire Chief Richard Thomas said.
