Gurnee-area man faces multiple gun charges

A Gurnee-area man has been charged with possessing a gun that was reported stolen from Wisconsin, authorities said Tuesday.

Delon J. Carter, 25, of the 36000 block of Traer Terrance in unincorporated Gurnee, was arrested in Beach Park about 11 p.m. Sunday on charges of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, bringing contraband into a penal institution, and possession of cannabis, authorities said.

Lake County Sheriff's deputies responded to Cambridge Boulevard and Queensbury Lane after getting a report of a car in a ditch and a man holding a handgun.

When deputies arrived, they found the slide for a Glock .45 caliber handgun in the snow, authorities said. The rest of the handgun was found nearby, authorities said.

The gun was traced by officers and they found it had been reported as stolen from Kenosha County, authorities said.

Another person who was with Carter when police arrived was not charged.

Officials said they could not comment on the charge of bringing contraband into a penal institution because the details were unavailable Tuesday afternoon.

Carter remains in Lake County jail on $100,000 bail. His next court date is Feb. 11,
