Hampshire woman injured in fire remains in critical condition

A Hampshire woman who suffered serious injuries Friday when fire broke out in her apartment remained in critical condition Sunday at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, hospital officials said.

The woman, identified by friends as Georgia Hartman, was pulled from the burning building at 206 S. State St. after firefighters responded to reports of a blaze at 10:17 p.m. Friday night. The two-story, mixed use building houses offices belonging to the Fenzel Motor Sales dealership, as well as second-floor apartments.

Two firefighters also were injured, one from a fall and another after suffering from smoke inhalation.

Hampshire Fire Protection District Lt. Brian Marlowe said Sunday there was no update on investigators' search for a cause of the fire.
