2 men charged in Algonquin woman's death
Two men have been charged in the drug-induced death of a 21-year-old Algonquin woman, police said.
The victim was Danielle Barzyk, whose boyfriend, Cody Hillier, brought her to the Algonquin police station parking lot early Saturday morning because she was experiencing difficulty breathing, police said.
Hillier lived near the police station/village hall at 2200 Harnish Drive, police said.
"He came inside to call 911," Deputy Chief Andrew Doles said. "They live just a short way from the police department."
Barzyk was unconscious and not breathing when officers reached her. They administered CPR and emergency medical treatment until paramedics took her to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin where she was pronounced dead of a heroin overdose, Doles said.
Hillier, 23, of Algonquin has been charged with two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance and delivery of a controlled substance for giving the heroin to Barzyk, police said. The man who sold Hillier the heroin, James Linder, 34, of Zion, has been charged with drug-induced homicide, Doles said.
The North Central Narcotics Task Force, the McHenry County and Lake County state's attorneys offices, and the Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group assisted with the investigation.
Hillier and Linder were being held at the McHenry County jail pending a bond hearing at 9 a.m. Wednesday in courtroom 304 of the McHenry County Courthouse.
