Armstrong surpasses pre-Katrina passenger numbers in 2014
NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Louis Armstrong International Airport served more passengers in 2014 than it did in 2004, surpassing pre-Katrina numbers for the first time since the storm.
The airport, in a news release, says about 9.79 million passengers traveled through the facility last year. That's a 6.3 percent increase over 2013 and the fifth straight year of growth.
Director of Aviation Iftikhar Ahmad says the airport handles 80.3 percent of Louisiana's overall passengers. He says in the past five years the airport has broken numerous records, including total number of non-stops and U.S. enplanement ranking. Surpassing pre-Katrina passenger numbers, however, he says, was the team's most important goal.
