Cary-Grove, Highland Park tie for first at BG's invite

Cary-Grove earned a tie for the team title in Saturday's Fred Palffy boys swimming and diving invitational on Saturday.

Both the Trojans and Highland Park finished with 183 points, ahead of third-place West Chicago/Batavia (164), fourth-place St. Patrick (162) and fifth-place Lake Park (153).

St. Viator (120) placed seventh and the host Bison (72) were ninth, just ahead of Schaumburg (48).

Cary-Grove had the winning 200-yard free relay of Scott Eibel, Mitch Robak, Cooper Langanis and Corey Sheehan (1:30.93), and freshman Nick Jasinski took top honors in the 100 backstroke. Langanis also produced a pair of runner-up individual finishes, in the 200 free (1:47.20) and 500 free (4:54.66).

St. Viator freshman Michael Balcerak was a double winner, taking the 100 free in 47.51 and the 200 free in 1:46.57. The Lions also got a runner-up placement from Shea Boyer in the 100 back (57.11).

West Chicago had the winning medley (Garrett Clasen, Cooper Hawkins, Ryan Sego and Tyler Cook) and also had individual winners in the 200 IM (Clasen, 1:57.67), 100 fly (Sego, 55.17) and 100 breast (Clasen, 1:01.18).

Huntley senior Bryan Haage placed second in the 100 free (49.09) and fourth in the 200 free (1:48.17).

Prospect, which entered only divers in the meet, saw senior Stephen Schmit place third (388.8) and sophomore Anthony Liva fourth (387.20).

Buffalo Grove's top finish came in the 50 free, where Mark Poirier took third place in 23.25.
