Man gets 8 years for sex trafficking teen girl

A Loves Park man charged with acting as a pimp and trafficking a teenage girl in the Northwest suburbs was sentenced to eight years in prison.

The trial of Kevin Chavers, 35, was to begin next week, but he pleaded guilty last month and was sentenced. In addition to the prison time, he was ordered to pay $2,200 in restitution and $649 in fines. He received credit for the 499 days in custody since his arrest.

While executing an unrelated search warrant on Chavers at an Arlington Heights motel on Jan. 2, 2013, police found a 16-year-old girl who told them Chavers acted as her pimp.

Court records also show that Chavers pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice and was ordered to serve one year in prison, to run concurrent to the eight-year sentence.

Prosecutors said that Chavers contacted the teenager after her arrest and wired her money, despite a no-contact order.
