Chicago artist hired to paint third Rosemont mural near Allstate Arena

Rosemont is hiring Chicago artist Rahmaan Statik Barnes to create a third mural in the neighborhood north of the Allstate Arena.

The village board Wednesday approved a contract not to exceed $15,000 with Barnes to oversee creation of a sports-themed mural on the sides of buildings adjacent to a new turf field next to the Barry Recreation Center.

Last summer, the village hired Barnes to work with local students to create a mural of Mexican history and culture next to the rec center's parking lot. He also recently completed a Chicago Wolves mural on the side of a building near the Allstate Arena parking lot.

Just like last year, student apprentices employed by the village are expected to work with Barnes to create the mural. Work is expected to begin in the spring.
