Woman injured in Des Moines hit-and-run accident identified
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Authorities have identified the woman injured by a hit-and-run driver in Des Moines.
Police say 49-year-old Roberta Schulte was struck at an intersection on Sunday night. She was taken to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in critical condition.
Police say the driver of the vehicle later called the police department to admit involvement in the accident, saying he panicked and drove away. The 19-year-old driver has since been interviewed.
Des Moines Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jason Halifax says authorities would like to speak with Schulte before moving forward with charges against the driver.
Authorities say neither speed nor intoxication are likely to have been factors in the collision.
