Incumbent spent more than winner in Illinois 10th

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (AP) - Records show Kenilworth Republican Bob Dold won in Illinois' 10th Congressional District even though his opponent outspent him by more than $1 million.

The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports (http://bit.ly/149wVJa) Dold's campaign spent $3.5 million while incumbent Democratic U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider spent $4.7 million. The spending figures come from campaign disclosure forms filed with the Federal Election Commission.

Dold campaign spokeswoman Danielle Hagen says a grassroots operation and Dold's bipartisan message helped him "despite being outspent on the television airwaves."

Political expert Kent Redfield says "some of the biggest spenders in any congressional election cycle are losing incumbents."

The 10th District stretches from Chicago's North Shore suburbs toward the Wisconsin border.
