Woman charged with delivering guns used to shoot deputies

A 67-year-old Elk Grove Village woman was ordered held on $100,000 bail Wednesday after prosecutors say she delivered several firearms that her nephew is accused of using in the October shooting of two McHenry County sheriff's deputies.

Kathryn Kriepke has been charged with delivering firearms to someone who does not possess a firearm owners identification card. Kriepke, who has a FOID card, faces up to three years in prison if convicted. Probation is also available.

Cook County prosecutors say Kriepke delivered three weapons, including an AR15 rifle, a 12-gauge shotgun and a .38-caliber firearm to Scott B. Peters on Aug. 1. Peters, a former soldier with a checkered military career, does not have a FOID card, prosecutors said.

Peters, 52, of Holiday Hills, faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm for the Oct. 16 shooting of deputies Khalia Satkiewicz and Dwight Maness. McHenry County authorities say Peters fired several shots through his home's closed door at the officers, who arrived there around 1:15 a.m. following a call about a domestic disturbance. They say Peters then went outside and fired several more shots at the officers. A third deputy returned fire, said police, who say Peters fled during the commotion. He was arrested 16 hours later about six miles from his home. He remains in a McHenry County jail on $1 million bail.

During their investigation, McHenry County authorities recovered the rifle used in the shooting, which was linked to a 1995 Wilmette case, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney David Shin. Court records indicate that weapon was returned in 1997 to its owner, Kriepke, Shin said.

That weapon was among the firearms police say Kriepke delivered to Peters on Aug. 1, Shin said.

Police arrested Kriepke Tuesday.

She next appears in court on Dec. 23.
