Police search for man wanted in four armed robberies over 8 days
Waukegan police are searching for a man who they say committed four armed robberies and shot at officers during an eight-day period.
The robberies took place between Nov. 14 and Nov. 22, authorities said.
The Nov. 14 robbery took place about 5:30 p.m., after the offender entered the Astro Title Max Loans in the 200 block of South Green Bay Road, demanded cash, and showed the teller a handgun tucked in his waist band, authorities said. The teller told the offender there was no cash in the business, and he left the store on foot or in a car.
Police were called to Illinois Cash Advance in the 1300 block of North Green Bay Road for a business panic alarm about 6 p.m. on Nov. 21. A store employee said the suspect showed a gun and took cash during the robbery. It was unknown if the offender left the area on foot or in a car, authorities said.
Later that night, officers were called to a residence in the 500 block of Water Street for an armed robbery, authorities said. The victims said they were approached outside the home, forced inside at gunpoint, and the suspect took cash and cellphones from them, authorities said. The victims reported the suspect fled in a four-door, gold-colored sedan with rust on it.
Police were called to Glen Rock Avenue and Lincoln Street for the report of an attempted armed robbery to a person at 7 p.m. on Nov. 22, authorities said. When police arrived, they to approach the offender, but he fired one shot at them and ran away, authorities said.
The Waukegan Police Department's Criminal Investigation's Division is investigating all four crimes, authorities said, adding it is impossible to know definitively if each involved the same offender.
Authorities said the offender in all four crimes is described as a clean cut black man in his mid-20s, standing about 5-feet, 8-inches tall, and having a slender build.
