Police officer gets probation for station altercation

A Skokie police officer from Gurnee pleaded guilty to official misconduct Wednesday, court records show.

In exchange for his guilty plea to the Class 3 felony, Michael Hart, 45, was sentenced to 24 months probation and ordered to pay $674 in fines, according to court records.

Prosecutors said Hart became irate with a female detainee while booking her on DUI charges in March 2013. Authorities say that after the woman disregarded Hart's instructions during the booking process, he shoved her into a holding cell causing her to fall against a concrete bench. The woman suffered facial fractures which required reconstructive surgery, prosecutors said.

Video surveillance cameras recorded the events, prosecutors said.

Skokie police did not return calls asking for comment.
