Official: 16-year-old injured in Beach Park hit-and-run

A 16-year-old riding his skateboard Saturday night was seriously injured when he was struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run accident in Beach Park, fire officials said.

Paramedics were called about 7:34 p.m. to Sheridan Road and Chaney Avenue, where the teen was hit, Beach Park Assistant Fire Chief Richard Ludowise said.

He told paramedics a vehicle, of unknown make and model, hit him from behind, Ludowise said. There were no signs of the driver when crews arrived, Ludowise said.

The teen was flown in a helicopter to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.

"He was alert and conscious at the time," said Ludowise, adding that paramedics were concerned about internal injuries.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash and did not immediately return requests for comment.
